Success Stories: Meet Trent

Trent has received funding support through the Hart Supported Living grant which has opened up his world. Seven Counties’ and the HSL grant provided a live-in companion, support in the community, and an opportunity to enjoy activities of interest as well as cultivate new interests. He has developed social relationships through his live in companion and has always enjoyed exercise and being outside.

Trent expressed his desire for a three wheel bike, “I like riding a 3 wheel bike and I like being engaged with others and interacting. I feel better when I choose to exercise. These are my choices to live a more fulfilled, happy, healthy life style.” In Trent’s neighborhood, having a bike provides access to shopping and restaurants which he can enjoy with his friends.

Seven Counties successfully secured funding for a three wheel bike for Trent via the State General Funds within the Family Support Services program. Our case manager worked with the family to find the best bike at a good price. Trent was so excited to receive the bike that he was out enjoying his community in the cold month of December, not waiting until the weather was more suitable.

The recipient of numerous artistic awards and honors, including the role as Autism Ambassador of the United States, Altman’s talent and skill belies the obstacles he’s had to overcome. He hopes his work can help to curb negative attitudes about people with disabilities, and has donated many works to autism charities. But the most important thing to remember about Altman’s paintings are their immersive quality, for both the artist and the viewer. They transport people to another place, a result of Altman’s commitment to his artistic process and the sharing of his heart and mind with the world.
